Last week, I made a long trip down to Muskegon for a matchup that pitted cross-town rivals Muskegon and Mona Shores in a battle of undefeated 7-0 teams in a OK-black matchup.
Muskegon broke out of the gate early scoring on their first play from scrimmage and never looked back in a convincing 55-35 win and their 3rd straight over Mona Shores.
2020 QB/“ATH” and Michigan State target Cameron Martinez was the player of the game rushing for six touchdowns and over 300 yards.
“We were in a big atmosphere, we did a lot of good things and I thought we played really well,” says Martinez.
With the MHSAA state playoffs coming Martinez says he’s focused on that right now.
“We have to keep this momentum into the playoffs, we need to approach everyone the same and make sure we do the little things right.”
Martinez has been in contact with a few schools about visiting and says Michigan State is one of them.
“I’ve been in contact with Coach Bullough, he’s the recruiting coordinator for my area and he came to my Week 3 game when Michigan State had a bye. They’ve been talking to me about getting to a game too.”
As most might know, Muskegon is where Ladarius Jefferson came from last year who started at QB and led the Big Reds to a State Championship and Martinez came in transferring from Muskegon Catholic Central where he won a State Championship as a Freshman.
“Transferring is the best decision I’ve ever made and it opened up so many doors for me. As for Ladarius, I’m just trying to do the same thing he did last year, anything less than that is a disappointment.”
Martinez is a 3 Star “ATH” but has played QB all season for the Big Reds. His offers include Central Michigan who had a coach at the game Friday to watch, Syracuse, Northwestern, Kentucky, and Indiana. Martinez has also received interest from Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Tennessee.
