Belleville 36 – Livonia Churchill 21
Belleville had a scare last week winning in the last minute against Brighton. Look for them to tighten up this week and make a statement with arguably the most lodes roster in the state against a good Churchill team who knocked off Canton last week.
Oak Park 34 – Birmingham Groves 30
Oak Park kicked off the season last week at Wayne State for the Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic and took care of Utica Eisenhower behind a big game from Phillip Stewart and Dwan Mathis. Groves starts out the year with West Bloomfield and Oak Park which is a daunting task. Groves pushes Oak Park to the end but the run game with Stewart and Mathis are too much tonight.
Forest Hills Central 24 – West Ottawa 21
In one of the most intriguing games on the west side of the state two of the premier schools with some of the deepest playoff runs from a year ago battle in week 2. This will live up to the hype and come down to the wire with a late touchdown deciding this one.
Waterford Mott 27 – White Lake Lakeland 19
Both Waterford and Lakeland came out week 1 taking care of business both winning by 40+. This one will be a little different but Waterford with highly recruited receiver Christian Fitzpatrick is too much for Lakeland to contain all game.
Frankenmuth 28 – Swan Valley 21
In what is by far the best game in the Saginaw area squares off a State Finalist and State Final four team in Division 5 who both ended their seasons against West Catholic last year. Most thought Frankenmuth was looking to rebuild but a convincing win over a D3 playoff team from a year ago in Bay City Central proved otherwise. This will be a dandy with Frankenmuth proving their still a power in the area.
Muskegon 36 – Detroit King 34
In what might be the game of the year, King travels to the west side of the state to take on state power Muskegon. Both are coming off wins against good teams and I expect a shootout between two of the best Dual threat QBs in the Midwest in Cameron Martinez (Muskegon) and DeQuan Finn (King). I think this turns into a big game for Martinez who breaks out into as the top junior QB in the state with a huge game at home in front of the Big Red fans.
Saline 31 – Grand Rapids Catholic Central 14
Saline lost a tough one by five points to a very good Chippewa Valley team in week 1 now they go up against a reigning state champion in D4 in week 2. Saline is a bigger school with more numbers and GRCC with the graduation of Mayfield can’t compete with those numbers.
De La Salle 35 – Grandville 20
De La Salle opened up against Muskegon and showed signs of competing with the best. This week they play at home vs Grandville who is also 0-1. De La Salle gets a much needed first win.
East Kentwood 32 – Orchard Lake St. Mary 14
Another battle of 0-1 teams trying to get their first wins. East Kentwood has one of the most talented lines in the state with guys like Logan Brown, Dallas Fincher, Bryce Mostella, Mazi Smith all highly recruited guys. OLSM is still rebuilding and face a tough test after getting upset in week 1 by Macomb Dakota.
West Bloomfield 27 – Clarkston 10
In a rematch of the Division 1 State Final which saw Clarkston win 3-2 the two face off again to open conference play. West Bloomfield won last year in the regular season and will do so again. Clarkston’s defense and coaching should keep them in the game until the end but the talent of guys like Tre Mosley, Donovan Edwards, and Lance Dixon will be shown to pull the Lakers away getting revenge from last years State Final.
